As the final regular-season tournaments of the 2021-22 campaign wind down and the specter of a remarkable senior class departing the program at year's end, head coach Nick Wanderscheid's younger set gave notice to opponents at the College of Saint Mary/Midland University Invitational that the Mustangs will remain a Great Plains Athletic Conference and regional force.
Castelan earned her third career first-place finish, playing the Tiburon Golf Course layout to an 84. She edged Nebraska Wesleyan University's Madison Jackson by one stroke for the medalist honor. Fellow underclasswomen Lauren Carr (Lincoln, Neb.) and Rachel Parks (Blair, Neb.) also ended in the first 15. Carr, a sophomore, took ninth (95), and Parks, a freshman, placed 15th with a 102.
Team-wise, Morningside's 386 was suitable for third. NWU and the co-host Flames of CSM went one-two (365-368).
At the Siouxland Spring Invitational, the Mustangs are back in action Monday and Tuesday, April 18 and 19.
