Brown earns medalist along with team title at Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D. — The Morningside University women's golf team opened its fall season with a team title Friday at the Mount Marty Invitational, played at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.

The two-day event began Thursday at Fox Run Golf Club, also in Yankton.

Morningside's 'A' squad took the team crown with rounds of 300 on Thursday and 317 on Friday. Leading the way was Lucy Brown, who captured medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 146.

Brown fired a 5-under-par 67 in the opening round, highlighted by six birdies and just one bogey. On Friday, teammate Ivanna Becerra-Diaz paced the 'A' team with a 77 (+5). Brown shot 79, followed by Alysen Sander (80), Kamryn Zuniga (81) and Aidan Sander (86).

Becerra-Diaz finished tied for third overall with a 154. Zuniga placed seventh at 159, Alysen Sander was eighth with 160, and Aidan Sander tied for 10th at 164.

The Mustangs' 'B' squad came in sixth with rounds of 336 and 339. Kendra Casey (161, 9th) and Macy Button (164, T-10th) led the way.

Rounding out the 'B' team, Ella Welsh tied for 28th with 174, and Ainsley Hergert was 33rd at 176.
