Bio
Nick Wanderscheid was named head coach of the Morningside University Men’s and Women’s golf programs in June of 2021. Wanderscheid took over the reins from Coach Todd Sapp, who retired after the 2020-2021 season.
In his first four years as head coach, Coach Wanderscheid has guided The Mustangs to 30 team victories, including two Women’s and one Men’s GPAC Team Championship, and four individual GPAC Champions. During his tenure, Morningside has landed 20 Men and Women on the All- GPAC teams, including four Player of the Year and two newcomer of the year winners. Three Mustangs, Sofia Castelan, Sam Storey and Jonny Douglas have been named NAIA All-Americans under Coach Wanderscheid’s guidance. Coach Wanderscheid was named GPAC Women’s Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2024. Morningside Men’s Golf was named a GCAA All-Academic Team in 2021/2022 and 2024/2025. Morningside Women’s Golf was named a WGCA All-America Scholar Team in 2024/2025, checking in with the 8th highest team GPA in the NAIA.
Wanderscheid’s roots run deep in Sioux City in both golf and life. A lifelong Morningside resident, Wanderscheid graduated from Sioux City East in 1997. Wanderscheid won the 1998 and 1999 Sioux City Men’s Amateur Championship and turned professional in 2000. He started his professional career as the Associate Head Professional at Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City. In 2002 he began an 18 year run at Green Valley Golf Club as the 2nd Assistant Professional. In May of 2013, Wanderscheid gained his PGA Membership and was promoted to Head Professional at Green Valley. He continued in that role until January of 2020 when he accepted the position of PGA Teaching Professional at Dakota Dunes Country Club. Wanderscheid is highly involved at the professional level with the Nebraska PGA Section. In addition to serving on multiple committees with the section, he served as the Chairman of the Nebraska PGA Tournament Committee from 2019-2024, as well as holding a seat on the Nebraska PGA Board of Directors in that time. Wanderscheid married his wife Jill, who is also a Sioux City East graduate, in September of 2007. Jill is the Neighborhood Services Manager for the City of Sioux City. In March of 2024, Nick and Jill welcomed their beautiful daughter Wynn Carmela Wanderscheid into the world.
Along his journey as a PGA Professional, Coach Wanderscheid has collected numerous titles and championships at the professional level. Wanderscheid has won over 35 professional tournaments since 2010. Included in those are the Nebraska PGA Section Championship three times (2014, 2015, 2017), the Nebraska PGA Match Play Championship twice (2015, 2021), the Nebraska PGA Assistants Championship twice (2010, 2011), the Nebraska PGA Team Championship three times (2014, 2017, 2019), the Nebraska PGA Pro/Assistant Championship in 2011 and was named Nebraska PGA Player of the year in 2016. Coach Wanderscheid is a ten time qualifier for the PGA Professional National Championship. As part of the Nebraska PGA’s Centennial Celebration, Coach Wanderscheid was named to the Nebraska PGA All-Star team, which recognized the top 10 players from each era of 1925-1975 and 1976-2025.
During his time as a PGA Professional, Wanderscheid has coached over 30 players who played or are playing college golf. He has worked with multiple nationally known teaching professionals as well as trained at the club fitting facilities at the national headquarters of Titleist, Cobra, and Taylormade. Coach Wanderscheid is currently a member of the Titleist/Footjoy Elite Players National Staff.
