Mustangs open Hindman-Hobbs pool with day of fast racing
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Mustang swimmers hit the water on Saturday for family day, hosting the College of Saint Mary/Midland dual in their home pool. With many fast races recorded, the women’s team scored 72 points, good for second place in team rankings.
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Mustang swimmers hit the water on Saturday as part of Family Weekend, hosting College of Saint Mary and Midland in a home dual. With many fast races recorded, the women's team scored 72 points, good for second place in team rankings.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the first event of the day, Sydney Lueth, Alice Mahoney, Haley Snawerdt, Olivia Ramaeker, had a great first race, touching the wall in second place with a time of 2:01.21.
Lexi Carey and Kirstin Verplanke were the top Mustangs in the vigorous 1000-yard freestyle event. Carey finished in to the wall with a time of 11:26.50 for first place, and Verplanke touched in second with a time of 12:33.23.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Josie Dike and Snawerdt swam neck-and-neck, finishing in second and third place with times of 2:09.62 and 2:10.02. In the same event Rilee Hobbs finished in third place at 2:34.83.
Grace Holzerland had a great swim in the 200-yard individual medley, placing third with a time of 2:27.02.
Mahoney and Lueth returned for the 100-yard backstroke, placing third and fourth with times of 1:05.21 and 1:04.28.
Mustangs were well represented in the 500-yard freestyle event by Carey, Verplanke, and Snawerdt, all finishing in the top three for the event with times of 5:43.07, 6:06.83, and 6:10.83
In the last individual event of the meet, Mahoney and Holzerland battled it out for second. Mahoney touched the wall in second place with a time of 1:12.68, and Holzerland touched the wall in third place with a time of 1:13.30.
Concluding the meet, the 200-yard freestyle relay of Dike, Ramaeker, Carey, and Verplanke had a strong last race, with a second place finish at 1:49.61.
Morningside's swimmers will be back in their home pool at the Hindman-Hobbs Center on Saturday, Nov. 4 for the St. Ambrose dual.
