Women win 7-0 with conference finale on the horizon

YANKTON, S.D. – The Mustangs stand at 6-0 with one match remaining on the Great Plains Athletic Conference docket, following a women's tennis sweep of Mount Marty, 7-0. Morningside sits ahead of perennial powerhouse, and Monday's opponent, Midland, as the Warriors have two matches remaining on the calendar.

The Mustangs weren't going to overlook Mount Marty, though, as Morningside came ready to play, winning doubles with victories by Emily Clotfelter and Macy McDonald (6-0), Jil Hellerforth and Annika Meisel (6-1), and Line Jensen and Delfina Stuzynska (6-1).

Meisel kept things rolling as the match transitioned to singles play, winning 6-0, 6-0. Jensen followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win, and Hellerforth took the no. 2 match 6-1, 6-2. 

Stuzynska opened her singles match with a 6-2 victory before falling 6-4, leaving a glimmer of hope for the Lancers. The senior from Brussels, Belgium, quickly responded with a 10-2 super tiebreaker to take the match.

Clotfelter continued Morningside's streak, winning 6-1, 6-1, and Lidia Suarez was able to blank her opponent 6-0, 6-0.

The Mustangs now prepare for Monday's matchup against Midland, which will likely determine the GPAC regular season champion, playing at 3 p.m. at the Mason Family Tennis Complex.
