Mustangs claim GPAC title outright in regular season finale
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEB. – For the second time in as many weeks, a Morningside tennis team finished the day by hoisting a Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season champion trophy. Today it was the women’s team’s turn, as the Mustangs defeated College of Saint Mary 7-0.

Line Jensen and Brooke Marshall joined the no. 3 duo of Lidia Suarez and Sophia Guntren in the win column with a 6-0 victory. Suarez and Guntren won via forfeit. Kailee Bailey and Stefany Simplicio added a 6-1 win in the no. 2 doubles spot.
The Mustangs kept the ball bouncing in their favor, as Guntren collected another forfeit; Suarez won 6-0, 6-2; and Jensen won 6-0, 6-0 to clinch the match. Bailey won a 6-4, 6-0 victory in the no. 3 spot and Simplicio was in control at no. 4, 6-1, 6-0.
All eyes then turned to Marshall's no. 2 match with the team sweep on the line. The freshman, who had won her first set 6-2, fell 3-6 in set no. 2 and was down in a 10-point super tiebreaker. With her teammates urging her on, Marshall came back to claim the set, winning the tiebreak game 11-9.
Morningside now looks ahead to the GPAC Postseason Tennis Tournament, April 24-26 at the Mason Family Tennis Complex.
