Morningside Defeats Doane, 5-2, in GPAC Women's Tennis
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – The Mustangs continued their string of tough conference play in women’s tennis, coming out on top with a 5-2 victory over Doane today.
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – The Mustangs continued their string of tough conference play in women's tennis, coming out on top with a 5-2 victory over Doane today.
Morningside took the double's point, 2-1, with wins by Stefany Simplicio and Bianca Seminario Pinheiro Costa (6-1) and Lara Heinrich and Helene Kreibich (6-2).
Brooke Marshall kept the Mustangs moving in the right direction, leading 5-2 before her match was retired due to opponent injury. Kreibich worked quickly to claim a 6-0, 6-0 win at no. 4, and Jil Exelmans clinched the match, winning a 6-3 tiebreaker after winning a 6-4 first set.
Simplicio was the last to reach the book, winning 6-0, 7-6 with a 9-7 tiebreaker to win the set.
Morningside heads to Northwestern on Monday for a 4 p.m. contest before playing Hastings on Thursday.
