Zuehl, Sporrer take top spots in Dennis Young Indoor Classic
STORM LAKE, IOWA – Nicole Zuehl and Courtney Sporrer came to compete for the Mustangs at the 2025 Dennis Young Indoor Classic, each collecting first place finishes on the day.
STORM LAKE, IOWA – Nicole Zuehl and Courtney Sporrer came to compete for the Mustangs at the 2025 Dennis Young Indoor Classic, each collecting first place finishes on the day.
Zuehl took first place in the mile run with a time of 5:34.28. Zuehl was tailed by Gabby Ryan in third at 5:55.76, and Lillian Dahlhauser in fourth with a time of 5:58.10.
Sporrer placed first in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:18.84. Her time, which beats the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics B standard, is currently no. 11 in the NAIA.
London Rogge turned in a personal best in the 3,000-meter run, placing fourth in 11:32.01 seconds.
In shorter distances, Mustang freshmen Olivia Amberntsson and Shylah Abbot finished second and third in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing in 9.37 and 9.76 seconds, respectively. Meredith Draper placed second in the 60-meter dash, sprinting to a time of 8.25 seconds. Lauren Wehrbein took fourth in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 27.79 seconds. Abbot's time was good for a personal best.
Alongside the start line for the 60-meter events, Morningside saw the trio of Shelby Mills, Maddy Stanek, and Jacee Tindall all place in the top five in the weight throw. Mills' mark of 13.60 meters was good for second, Stanek's PR of 12.06 ranked fourth, and Tindall's 11.63 meters took fifth. Tindall also took fourth in the shot put, recording a 10.90 meter effort.
Morningside heads to Dakota Wesleyan University's blue oval on Saturday, February 1, in Mitchell, S.D.
