Mustangs' 4x800 team breaks GPAC meet record

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — A conference record and a pair of individual podium finishes powered the Morningside women's track and field team Saturday to a seventh-place finish with 30 points at the GPAC Indoor Championships.
The highlight of the weekend came in the 4x800-meter relay, where Morgan Sachs, Madison Sporrer, Jolee Mesz and Courtney Sporrer delivered a GPAC-record performance of 9 minutes, 22.70 seconds to claim the conference title. The quartet steadily built momentum throughout the race before Courtney Sporrer closed in 2:17 on the anchor leg, sealing 10 team points.
Courtney Sporrer also added eight more points in the 3,000 meters, finishing runner-up in 10:18.33. The senior remained in contention throughout the distance race, and in her final split, she ran her fastest split in 39.58 seconds.
Sachs contributed individually as well, placing third in the 800 meters in 2:21.79 to earn six points. The sophomore positioned herself well through the opening lap and held off challengers down the homestretch to reach the podium.
Morningside rounded out its scoring with a sixth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, adding three points to bring the team total to 30.
