Mustangs have more than 10 all-conference performances at GPAC Championships
SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – Morningside’s track and field season continues to creep closer to its conclusion as the women competed in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Dordt University this weekend. The Mustangs placed seventh in the event as a team, with 10 individuals placing in the top eight and one relay in the top three to earn all-conference honors.

The Mustangs placed seventh in the event as a team, with 10 individuals placing in the top eight and one relay in the top three to earn all-conference honors.
Rylee Olson was the top individual finisher for Morningside, taking second in the javelin with a throw of 38.48 meters. Holly Severance just missed the all-conference cut, placing ninth with a throw of 34.15 meters.
The Mustangs' 4x800-meter relay team took second place in the event, with the team of Courtney Sporrer, Taylor Sporrer, Michelle Sanchez, and Emily Chicoine running a 9:27.34 to claim the lone all-conference honor for a Morningside relay. The same foursome placed seventh in the 4x400-meter relay, crossing the line in 4:10.40. The 4x100-meter relay team of Laura Greene, Taylor Greene, Hope Morken, and Maddie Morony also placed seventh, running a time of 51.3 seconds.
Courtney Sporrer placed third in the 1,500-meter run, turning in a time of 4:45.87. She also finished eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:24.21.
Taylor Sporrer came seventh in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line in 19:25.57. She placed eighth in the 1,500, finishing in 4:52.79.
Morken and Morony both survived the prelims in the 100-meter hurdles, with Morken placing fifth in the finals in 15.07 second and Morony finishing eighth in 15.71 seconds.
Sarah Bosch took sixth place in the 400-meter hurdles, navigating the lap in 1:06.57. Morken was close behind, finishing ninth in 1:08.27.
Sanchez added to her resume for the weekend with an all-conference finish in the 800-meter run, placing seventh in 2:22.52.
Morningside will send runners to Friday's Concordia Twilight Meet, hoping to add to and improve the list of times that have already qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
