Mustangs take five of top 10 spots in 1,500 to highlight strong day at CMU Invite

Courtney Sporrer continued her strong indoor season with a win in the 1,500-meters Saturday to start the outdoor season. She ran 4:50.68 to beat her teammate and sister, Taylor Sporrer, by three seconds. Taylor Sporrer ran 4:53.74 for second place and Michelle Sanchez made it three in the top five with a fifth place time of 4:58.24. London Rogge ran 5:17.57 for ninth and Monica Olson 5:19.76 for 10th.
Two Mustangs finished inside the top five in the 800, as Jolee Mesz (2:21.56) crossed the finish line fourth, just ahead of Emily Chicoine (2:23.39). Two more Morningside top 10's came in the 200-meters. Tilda Wahlen took seventh in 26.73 and Mesz took eighth in 26.81.
The Morningside 400 relay team of Meredith Draper, Tilda Wahlen, Taylor Greene, and Laura Greene ran 50.97 for fifth place. The 1,600 team of Courtney Sporrer, Sanchez, Taylor Sporrer, and Chicoine capped the day with a fourth place finish, running 4:05.14.
The Mustangs are at the USD Early Bird meet in Vermillion next weekend.
