SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Two Morningside women's track and field athletes on Wednesday earned the Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Athletes of the Week. Kinsey Alt earned the honor among field athletes, while Morgan Sachs nabbed her award for her efforts on the track.
Alt, a junior from Stuart, Iowa, placed third in the long jump at the Central Methodist Invitational with a mark of 5.47 meters (17-11.5), finishing ahead of more than 30 competitors. Her jump currently ranks fourth in the GPAC during the outdoor season, and it marked a personal best. Her previous PR for either indoor or outdoor season came Dec. 5, when she jumped 17-9 at the Wayne State Indoor Opener.
Sachs, a sophomore from Omaha, took fifth place in the 800 meters at the Central Methodist University Invite in a field of 35 runners with a time of 2 minutes, 19.91 seconds. That's good for second-fastest in the GPAC. Her performance wasn't too far off from her personal best of 2:19.15, which she ran last May at the University of South Dakota Twilight Meet.
