Mustangs place fifth at GPAC meet
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Morningside women’s track and field team placed fifth with 49 points over two days at the GPAC Outdoor Championships, powered by Courtney Sporrer’s two Top 2 performances.
FREMONT, Neb. — The Morningside women's track and field team placed fifth with 49 points over two days at the GPAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Midland, powered by Courtney Sporrer's two Top 2 performances.
Sporrer claimed the GPAC title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11 minutes, 4.96 seconds, earning 10 team points. The senior returned later in the meet to place second in the 5,000-meter race in 18:05.16.
The Mustangs continued to show depth in the distance events, placing two more All-Conference runners in the 5K. Estefana Beisswenger finished seventh in 18:43.48, while Gabby Ryan placed eighth in 18:47.23. Ryan also delivered a fourth-place finish in the 10,000 meters in 38:27.85, while London Rogge added an eighth-place finish in the same event in 39:28.96.
Morningside also found success in the field events, where Kinsey Alt earned fifth in the long jump, reaching 17 feet, 2 1/4 inches.
In relay action, the Mustangs delivered one of their top performances of the weekend in the 4x800-meter relay. The team of Morgan Sachs, Jolee Mesz, Nicole Zuehl and Madison Sporrer placed second with a time of 9:23.94, earning eight team points and an All-Conference finish. The 4x400-meter relay team of Kylin Smith, Sachs, Mesz and Ava Lang added a sixth-place finish in 4:02.85 to contribute the final three points.
