Mustangs unable to gain momentum in DSU loss

Slow starts for the Mustangs gave the Trojans, who were receiving votes in the latest national coaches’ poll, the momentum they needed to defeat Morningside 3-0, with scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-13.

Slow starts for the Mustangs gave the Trojans, who were receiving votes in the latest national coaches' poll, the momentum they needed to defeat Morningside 3-0, with scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-13.
Morningside's offense struggled to establish itself against the Trojans, recording just 28 kills in the three-set match. Sydney Marlow and Payten Lode led the kill count for the Mustangs, each recording seven, with Claire Wilson following with six kills. Gillian DePauw tallied 18 of the Mustangs 27 assists.
On defense, the Mustangs faired better, recording 51 digs and matching the Trojan's 3.0 team blocks. Aureana Bernales was the leader in the trenches, with 22 digs, while Marlow followed with nine. Gaby Wilson recorded two blocks, via the block assist, while Emerson Smith, Kylah Brewer, Marlow, and DePauw each contributed one.
Morningside is back in action in Allee Gym on Saturday, returning to Great Plains Athletic Conference play against Dakota Wesleyan. JV begins at 3:30, with varsity following at 5 p.m.
