Mustangs fluster Flames in GPAC sweep
After defeating Mount Marty on Friday, the Mustangs (17-6. 5-3 GPAC) on Saturday swept the College of Saint Mary by set scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-22 at Rosen Verdoorn Sports Complex.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Mark another weekend sweep for the Morningside University women's volleyball team.
After defeating Mount Marty on Friday, the Mustangs (17-6. 5-3 GPAC) on Saturday swept the College of Saint Mary by set scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-22 at Rosen Verdoorn Sports Complex.
Morningside found itself behind late in set No. 1, trailing 20-19. The Mustangs, however, scored seven of the next eight points to seal the set.
Claire Wilson and Nienke van Drunen had assisted blocks that gave the Mustangs the lead after two Flames errors.
Claire Wilson had one of her 12 kills in that run, while Payten Lode had two service aces. The last point came off a van Drunen kill.
In Set 2, Wilson recorded the go-ahead kill that gave the Mustangs a 12-11 lead, and held it throughout. Wilson, by the way, hit .455 in the win.
Morningside held the lead throughout most of the final set. The Mustangs hit .231 during the final frame, and recorded 15 kills.
As a whole, they hit .202 and recorded 39 total kills. Lode also had 10 kills, while van Drunen, Sydney Marlow, Adelyn Harris, and Emma Haren each had four.
Kyla Dyrstad led the Mustangs with 22 assists, while Aleksandra Dalach had 12.
Quinn Groves dug 16 shots to lead the Mustangs, while Marlow dug 12.
Wilson and van Drunen each had four total blocks, followed by Haren with three.
