Morningside ends regular season with sweep over Waldorf
The Mustangs hit .369 in the match, and collected 50 kills in the win.
FOREST CITY, Iowa -- The Morningside University women's volleyball team closed out its regular season with a three-set sweep over Waldorf on Tuesday night.
Morningside earned its 22nd win of the season and 10th in Great Plains Athletic Conference action by winning the sets by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 over the Warriors. The Mustangs hit .369 in the match, and collected 50 kills in the win.
Sydney Marlow led the Mustangs with 15 kills, while Claire Wilson had 12. Nienke van Drunen followed up with nine.
Aleksandra Dalach -- who was named Tuesday the NAIA and GPAC Setter of the Week -- had 42 assists and hit .500.
Aureana Bernales headed the defense with 21 digs, while Marlow had eight.
The first set ended with a four-point run, started by a Peyton Lode kill. Then, Marlow shut the door with three kills of her own. Dalach had the assist on all four plays.
In Set 2, Morningside went on an 8-0 run that saw Dalach earn a service ace. Wilson also had a pair of kills during that stretch. Morningside then led by as many as 12 points in Set 3.
The Mustangs end the regular season with a five-match winning streak. Since losing to Dakota Wesleyan on Sept. 18, the Mustangs went 9-3. Those three losses all came against nationally-ranked teams.
