Mustangs push No. 2 Concordia to the brink

The Bulldogs defeated the Mustangs 25-23, 18-25, 25-27, 25-17, 15-9 to stay unbeaten in league play.
Morningside delivered its best stretches in the second and third sets. After falling behind 5-1 in Set 2, the Mustangs answered with a 6-0 run fueled by a Taya Phillips ace and kills from Victoria Bouska and Payten Lode. They never trailed again, closing on a 7-3 surge to even the match with a 25-18 win.
In the third, Morningside rallied late to save three set points. An Emma Haren kill, another Phillips ace and a Concordia error leveled the score at 24-24. After trading points, Lode gave the Mustangs the lead, and Phillips finished it off with a kill for a 27-25 victory that put Morningside up 2-1 in the match.
Lode finished with a team-high 19 kills and 13 digs. Malia Fichtl added 12 kills, while Haren recorded 11 kills and 15 digs. Setter Kyla Dyrstad dished out 46 assists, and libero Aubrey Sandbothe collected 20 digs. Adelyn Harris led the block with 5.0.
