SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Morningside pushed No. 18 Midland to four sets Saturday evening but came up short, falling 25-23, 27-25, 22-25, 25-23 at Allee Gym.
Emma Haren led the Mustangs with 21 kills and hit .348, while Payten Lode added eight kills and 13 digs. Kyla Dyrstad guided the offense with 43 assists and 14 digs, and libero Aubrey Sandbothe collected 29 digs. Victoria Bouska had two solo blocks.
Morningside found its rhythm in the third set, hitting .246 and using a late run sparked by kills from Haren and Jacey Miller to seal a 25-22 win. The Mustangs rallied back from a nine-point deficit during the third set.
The Mustangs are on the road over the next two weeks, including a match Friday against Mount Marty.
