Duran, Shearer win matches at Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa — Mariah Duran and Callee Shearer each won one varsity match Saturday at the Waldorf University Open.
Shearer won in the consolation round at 124 pounds by pinning Hannah Simoes of Grand View in 2 minutes, 10 seconds. She went 1-2 on the day.
Duran also earned her win by pinfall, as she did so in the second round of consolations over Sioux Falls' Ciana Grate in 3:42.
Outside of Shearer and Duran, several other Mustangs gained early-season experience at the Waldorf Open.
Adilene Delgadillo competed at 131 pounds, while Baylie Wehmeyer battled to the consolation fourth round at 145. Taylor Pavlik also reached the same stage at 145, and Elizabeth Rubio wrestled at 110. Though the results didn't go their way, each gained valuable mat time as Morningside continues building depth across multiple weights.
