Shearer, Rubio earn victories at York Open

YORK, Neb. — Morningside freshman Callee Shearer placed fourth Saturday in the 124-pound amateur weight division at the York Open.

Shearer was one of three Mustangs who competed either in the amateur and open divisions. Shearer opened up action with a 61-second pinfall, then advanced to the semifinals with an 8-2 victory. She scored six points through the first period.

The freshman from Arlington, Neb., lost in the semis by pinfall, putting her in the consolation bracket. She wasted little time getting her third win of the day, advancing to the third-place match with a 7-0 victory.

Shearer lost in the third-place match by pinfall.

Baylie Wehmeyer also competed in the amateur division in the 160-pound class. She lost both matches.

Elizabeth Rubio won two matches in the 131 open division, both in the consolation bracket. Rubio trailed in both matches when she clinched the pinfalls.
