SEWARD, NEB. – Morningside University needed every bit of its 21-shot, three-goal offensive attack in Great Plains Athletic Conference road action Wednesday, Oct. 6.
Embroiled in a wide-open, back-and-forth contest for the full 90 minutes at Concordia University's Bulldog Stadium, head coach Tom Maxon's team managed a pair of crucial second-half scores to earn a 3-2 victory. Adding to a modest two-match win streak were scores from sophomore forward Gero Zarbo (Berlin, Germany) and senior midfielders Moritz Lusch (Bielefield, Germany) and Noah Aniser (Memmingen, Germany) that staved off an aggressive home side scheme that produced 23 total shots and ten attempts on frame that led to two goals.
Junior goalkeeper Bjarne Huth (Bad Vilbel, Germany) stood tall in the volley fire. He recorded eight saves, tying a personal match-high for the season for a third time, and did so in some trying circumstances. Concordia was incredibly aggressive after trailing 3-1 early in the second half and kept up their barrage right until the final seconds rolled off the clock.
The Mustangs (7-4 overall, 4-2 GPAC) look to add to their recent winning ways Saturday, Oct. 9. Dordt University visits the home pitch at Elwood Olsen Stadium for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
