Mustangs place sixth at KCAC Championships

HOBART, Ind. — The Morningside University men's swimming team placed sixth at the KCAC Championships on Saturday, finishing with 335 points.

John Spicer recorded the highest individual finish for Morningside, taking second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 41.52 seconds. He also placed third in both the 100 free (46.07) and the 50 free (21.07).
The 200-yard freestyle relay team secured a third-place finish, touching the wall in 1:25.35. The bronze medalists included Spicer, Jack La Rue, Cael Jensen, and Justin Bay.
Another relay team featuring Spicer, LaRue, Mateus Kozlowski, and Alejandro Plaza also grabbed third place in the 800-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 7:04.50—nearly 13 seconds faster than their entry time.
Bay placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a finals time of 1:56.13 after clocking 1:54.49 in the prelims.
Earlier in the weekend, Jake Bolda finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:48.62, shaving 3.16 seconds off his prelim time.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team placed fifth, clocking 3:09.00 with Bay, LaRue, Plaza, and Spicer in the lineup.
Bay, LaRue, Spicer, and Caden Morton teamed up to place fifth in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:29.13.
Morton also swam on the 200-yard medley relay team, which placed fifth in 1:35.82.
Bolda wrapped up the Mustangs' top-five finishes with a fifth-place performance in the 1,650-yard freestyle, touching in 16:55.74. He cut 1.15 seconds off his entry time, with his fastest 100-yard split coming in at 54.44.
