Mustangs sidestep Trojans in final contest of 2022
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside women’s basketball returned to its home floor for the first time in almost a month, welcoming the Dakota State University Trojans to Allee Gymnasium. The Trojans, receiving votes in the latest poll from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, successfully countered the Mustangs' attempts at pulling away until late in the contest, with Morningside coming away with an 81-67 victory at the conclusion of the meeting.

The Trojans, receiving votes in the latest poll from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, successfully countered the Mustangs' attempts at pulling away until late in the contest, with Morningside coming away with an 81-67 victory at the conclusion of the meeting.
Morningside shot just shy of 50 percent in the contest, hitting 32-of-65 shots from the floor, including 11-of-23 from beyond the three-point arc. The Mustangs had 26 assists and 28 points off of 23 Trojan turnovers, while only giving up 16 turnovers themselves. Morningside had 34 points in the paint and 10 second chance points while pulling down 33 rebounds.
Alexis Spier led the way in scoring, going 6-of-13 for three and 8-16 overall for 24 points in the contest to lead all scorers. McKenna Sims followed with 18 points in a 7-of-15 effort. Both Spier and Sims were perfect at the free throw line, sinking both shots in a pair of attempts. Olivia Larsen and Chloe Lofstrom followed for the Mustangs, with eight points each.
Lofstrom was Morningside's leading rebounder, with seven total boards, splitting top honors with a pair of Trojans. Sophia Peppers followed with five and Lily Vollertsen had four.
Morningside is back in action on January 2, making up its contest at the University of Jamestown at 6 p.m. in UJ's Harold Newman Arena.
